HM • To begin with, could you introduce yourself in a few words to the visitors of the site who wouldn’t know you?
Lenka • I'm Lenka, i'm from Australia. I like to make music and art and make people smile.
HM • How did you land in the music industry?
Lenka • I started as an actor but found myself wanting to do something with more creative control. My father is a jazz musician so it's in the blood. Music was a natural choice.
HM • You were part of the Decoder Ring band. Why did you chose to go solo?
Lenka • Again, it was for the creative control. I wanted to make vocally-driven, sweet, girly, poppy songs, which is really different from the Decoder Ring sound. Though i did love being with them a lot.
HM • Where does your inspiration come from? Moments you have lived, your imagination? Both?
Lenka • Imagination is a big part of it, but there is always some truth to the emotions and situations. I use song-writing as a way to figure out the world.
HM • Could you introduce your first album to the visitors?
Lenka • It's a collection of songs that are mostly uplifting and mood-enhancing. Very melodic, lots of horns, pianos, vibraphones and strings...
HM • You obviously like the album as a whole ... But if you had to chose only one song, which one would it be ?
Lenka • My favourite, for how the recording turned out, is Skipalong. I feel like it's the most soulful.
HM • How does it feel to hear your songs in TV shows (Grey's Anatomy, 90210...) or advertisements? Do you think they are well-used?
Lenka • I love it because it means that hopefully my music is reaching a new audience. Some are better than others of course. I loved Ugly Betty the best because i'm a big fan of that show...
HM • Did you start working on your sophomore album? More releases from your debut album, maybe?
Lenka • I've been writing like a maniac! Mostly as a way to process the craziness of this year. It soothes me. But, i'm really excited about making another album - i can't wait to get into the studio again!
HM • Any plans on coming to France?
Lenka • This year is slipping by too fast, but i think next year i'll do another show in France for sure. AT LEAST one!

Lenka • An extremely diverse mix of music, ranging from Debussy to MIA to Hot Chip to Nick Drake.

Lenka • Elton John or Burt Bacharach. Classic song-writers.
